Truth and reality
From 2007 up to this day, we have publicly addressed the intention of certain foreign organizations in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. We made it crystal clear that there are no shortcuts when it comes to permanent residency or pathways to citizenship and that our homeland is not a stepping stone and we are in a unique political union with the United States. Protests, marches, vigils, and signature drives led by self-interested individuals have misled others into believing that a blanket, handing out of green cards or citizenship across the board existed. Recently, a lawsuit was filed in federal court against federal officials by a foreign group, the same group that started all the immigration fiascos in our home island.
Unfortunately, the truth and reality is fast coming and definitely there is a serious need for the federal government to enforce border laws and to correct decades of ignorance and abuse of an immigration system that was once under our control. The truth is that some guest workers who have lived and worked in the Commonwealth for decades or more knew the flaws and loopholes in our immigration system then; otherwise they would not have lived and worked here all those years. Today, they act as if they knew nothing and are crying foul about being victimized. The question is, victimized by whom? Now they are suing in federal court the very government they so fully supported and hailed victory when it became public law.
A final note and a reminder to all: Our government filed lawsuits and attended congressional hearings after hearings but was unsuccessful in its quest to stop or prevent Congress from taking control of our immigration system. There are far more atrocities around the world such as hunger, genocide, terrorism and so forth but circumventing U.S. immigration laws is not one of them.
