A tropical depression was slowly intensifying yesterday into a tropical storm, but it’s located northwest and far from the CNMI.

As of 1pm, no watches or warnings were in effect as the center of Tropical Depression 18W was 805 miles northwest of Saipan, 825 miles northwest of Guam, and 590 miles southeast of Okinawa.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, Tropical Depression 18W is moving west at 3 miles per hour and packing maximum sustained winds at 35 mph.

The tropical depression is expected to make a slight turn to the west-northwest with an increase in forward speed over the next 24 hours.

NWS said the tropical depression is expected to continue slowly intensifying and possibly become a tropical storm last night (Monday).

Saipan experienced rains mostly yesterday afternoon.
