A committee of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce—the Saipan Young Professionals—is working with the U.S. Marine Corps on a Toys for Tots campaign in the CNMI.

The program aims to collect unwrapped toys during the months leading up to the holiday season, and then distribute as Christmas gifts to less fortunate youth.

The Toys for Tots campaign was initiated in 1947 in Los Angeles, Calif., to help children in the aftermath of World War II. To date, the program has collected more than 512 million toys during the last 70 years to over 237 million children.

Sharing in the core value of supporting the growth and development of CNMI youth, Triple J Saipan, Inc. helped launch the campaign locally, including Tinian and Rota.

Three Triple J companies—Great Harvest Bread Co., Truongs Vietnamese Restaurant, and Capricciosa Restaurant—will host monetary donation boxes countertop for anyone who can make monetary donations:

Two Triple J locations—the Triple J Truckload Store in Chalan Kanoa and the Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant in Garapan—will host large donation boxes for those who have unwrapped gifts to drop off.

“Triple J Saipan, Inc. is committed to working with local charities to support the growth and development of the CNMI and the Toys For Tots campaign tugs at the strings of the heart—giving to our youth who are in need,” said Mike Sablan, vice president, Finance and Administration. “With the community’s generosity, together we can give a child the gift of a magical holiday season. It takes all of us, working together, to make real changes.”

The Toys For Tots drive will run until Dec. 14.
