The trees along Beach Road, like those seen here by the Microl Toyota intersection in San Jose, now have a new trimmed look, thanks to a tree-trimming project undertaken by the Saipan Mayor's Office. (Clarissa V. David) Motorists driving by the Beach Road now have a better view of traffic lights and the Saipan Lagoon after the Mayor’s Office began trimming the lower branches of trees planted along the island’s main thoroughfare.

Mayor Donald G. Flores said yesterday the project began about a week ago, starting from north to south of Beach Road.

“This trimming project is part of the improvement and beautification efforts here on island,” Flores told Saipan Tribune. “With tourism as our main industry, it is only appropriate that we showcase what we have and let our tourists realize how beautiful our island is.”

According to Flores, tourists pass by the popular Beach Road on their way to their hotels or to the airport “so it’s important that we maintain it.”

Trimming the overgrown flame trees is already one way to have a “pretty improvement” on the island, he added.

The mayor disclosed that since they started the project, they have already received many positive feedbacks not only from visitors through their tour guides but also from island residents themselves.

“We need to do every little nice thing that we can to improve our island as a tourist destination,” added Flores.
