In alignment with plans for diversifying his cabinet, President-elect Donald J. Trump has announced that he has chosen Elaine L. Chao for secretary of the Department of Transportation.
Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres, who serves as co-chair for Trump’s Asian Pacific American Advisory Committee, commended Trump’s pick, noting that Chao’s expertise is crucial to redeveloping the nation’s infrastructure.
“Elaine Chao is the first Asian-American to be appointed twice to a presidential Cabinet. In her professional capacity, she has ensured equal opportunities for all people to build better lives through improved labor enforcement. She has helped restructure department programs during her time as DOL secretary while providing wage security of the nation’s workforce. Considering her extensive knowledge of the public and private sector, this illustrates Trump’s commitment to transforming the nation for continued economic growth and we look forward to the expansion of our nation’s transportation infrastructure,” Torres said.
Chao previously served as secretary for the Department of Labor, deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation, chair of the Federal Maritime Commission, deputy maritime administrator, and a White House fellow. (PR)
