Gov. Ralph DLG Torres disclosed in a radio news briefing last Friday that the CNMI has received $94 million from the federal government for different projects.

“We have a lot of projects moving forward,” said Torres.

He said they received $12 million for the governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund 2. Torres said he had already written to the Northern Marianas College, which will get $12 million.

Torres said the Public School System also received $61 million to assist with personnel costs but also to purchase equipment and materials in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.

He believes PSS got between $22 million and $23 million last year.

“This time around they got $61 million, which is excellent,” said Torres, adding that they met PSS early last week.

He said the CNMI also received $10 million in housing rental assistance. “Hopefully that will be rolling out very soon,” the governor said.

Torres said the $11 million the CNMI got from the U.S. Economic Development Administration will be used to fix the damaged roads caused by Super Typhoon Yutu in 2018.

“So there’s a lot of funds coming in, and we’re maximizing as much as we can in expediting the expenditures and getting our projects moving forward,” Torres said.

Torres said they will be working on getting federal funds to assist private partners as well. “So that will be forthcoming,” Torres said.
