Gov. Ralph DLG Torres met briefly with Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday when the vice president and his wife made a brief stopover at Guam’s Andersen Air Force Base.
Pence was coming from the two-day Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The airplane he was on, called Air Force 2, landed at around 5pm.
Torres joined Guam Gov. Eddie B. Calvo in welcoming Pence and his wife, Karen Pence, as Air Force 2 landed to refuel.
Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield and the wives of Torres, Diann, and Calvo, Christine, were also among the small group of well-wishers.
Torres said he personally thanked Pence for the assistance given by the Trump administration to the CNMI after two destructive typhoons.
“This [Sunday] afternoon Diann and I joined Gov. Calvo and first lady Christine at Andersen Air Force Base to welcome Vice President Pence to Guam and the Marianas,” said Torres.
“Vice President Pence and…Karen Pence were on island for a few hours to refuel and to meet with military families from the Marianas. We thanked the VP for the administration’s help in our ongoing recovery efforts on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.”
