A win by the 9 Eleven Titans, coupled by a loss of sister squad Docomo Hustlers had both teams ending up as co-leaders in the Tuesday division of the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League.
The Hustlers and Titans are both ahead by two wins, 119-89, from third placer Tasha’s Str8 Black Ball’s 117-91 slate after Week 16. There are four weeks left in the league and the Bud Cup will be played after the top season champs is known on Sept. 5.
The Chow Time Blue Haus Destroyers are in fourth (114-94) followed by Tasha’s Crazy 8 (79-129) and Chow Time Assassins (76-132).
The Titans defeated the Assassins, 9-4, behind the combined efforts of Bill Cepeda Shane Quitugua, Ray Matsunaga, and Simeon Kapileo to join the Hustlers on top of the standings.
The Titans won six straight games after the Assassins went ahead by one, 3-4, after John Reyes bested Quitugua in their Singles 8-Ball match.
Quitugua teamed up with Cepeda in the Partner’s 8-Ball to bounce back from that loss. The Titans did not drop a match after that to complete the win.
The Titans had the Destroyers to thank for as they scored an 8-5 win over the Hustlers in the other scheduled game while the Str8 Black Ball also had the same result against the Crazy 8.
The Titans will try to capitalize on their recent victory when they take on the Titans in Week 17 while the Crazy 8 battle the Destroyers. The Assassins clash with the Str8 Black Ball in the other scheduled match.
In the Thursday League, the 9 Eleven MJD Warriors improved to 125-83 following a 10-3 win over the Tasha’s Wild Bill’s (109-99), while leaders Chow Time 8-Black Ball (128-80) scored a 9-4 win over the Chow Time Blue Haus Homeboyz (87-121).
The 9 Eleven Jam Shooters (80-128) downed cellar dwellers Tasha’s Extreme (79-129), 9-4, and the Sands Team SCS (108-100) defeated the 9 Eleven Titans II (116-92), 8-5.
Week 17 games will have the Extreme colliding with the Titans II, the Homeboyz hosting the Jam Shooters, the 8-Black Ball visiting the Warriors, and Team SCS facing Wild Bill’s.
