Tiona Jones becomes 1st sergeant
The family and friends of Master Sgt. Tiona R. Jones are a very proud bunch after she recently graduated from 1st Sergeant’s School.
The daughter of Richard Dela Cruz Farrell and Celina Castro Farrell, Jones enlisted in the Air Force shortly after graduating from Tinian High School in September 2006, with a promise to her parents to earn her college degree through the Air Force.
Jones, or “Tio” as she is known by family and friends, fulfilled her promise in 2018, when she earned a bachelor’s degree at the American Miltary University, West Viginian, with a degree in Hospitality Management.
Along the way, Jones deployed in support of operations Iraqi Freedom, Inherent Resolve, and Enduring Freedom. She has performed duties as an international zone policeman in Baghdad, Iraq, and a patrolman at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq. She was also a flight chief for one of the largest security forces units within the area of responsibility in Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, where she managed over 140 total force airmen.
Jones is currently assigned to the 14th Medical Group, as the first sergeant at Columbus AFB, Mississippi. In this capacity, she advises the commander on the readiness, health, morale, and welfare of 167 personnel. (PR)
