The Tinian Public Library held its National Library Week celebration last week in collaboration with the Joeten Kiyu Public Library and the Tinian Mayor’s Office. The event drew over 130 students from kindergarten to 12th grade who participated in various scheduled activities.
National Library Week on Tinian kicked off with Amnesty Week, which waived off overdue fines and lost material fees.

Lucy Blanco-Maratita, vice chair of the Board of Education under the Public School System, and Fr. Jesse Reyes of Tinian’s San Jose Parish led the second day of activities with the Read-Aloud and Arts and Crafts activity.

The last days of Library Week saw three contests held, which included a keyboarding skills and speed test, the Dewey Hunt, and “I Love This Book” costume contest. Library Week on Tinian concluded with a movie night.

TPL supervisor Lorna Cruz said the turnout was great and the weeklong activities a complete success.

“The staff and I would like to extend our heartfelt and sincere appreciation to these individuals for their generous contribution and support,” Cruz said.

They included Lt. Jude U. Hofschneider, Sen. Francisco Q. Cruz (R-Tinian), Sen. Francisco M. Borja (Ind-Tinian), members of the 13th Tinian Municipal Council, Star Marianas Air, Inc., Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino, Bridge Investment Group, Michaela U. Sanchez, NMC Board of Regents, Lisa Aguon and director Jasper M. Borja, Department of Labor, and CPA Assistant Ports Manager Gerald K. Crisostomo. Appreciation is also extended to costume contest judges Chavelyn P. Epity, Mary Ann C. Dela Cruz, and Katie Castro.
