Tinian Mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz awarded Dennis Reyes, 27, yesterday with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of Reyes’ selfless and heroic efforts in coming to the aid of distressed tourists on Tinian.

The plaque reads: “In gratitude for bravely coming to the aid of distressed swimmers at Tinian’s Long Beach on June 5, 2014, this award is presented to Dennis Reyes, a hospitality industry employee, in recognition of his selfless service in rescuing one tourist swimmer and searching for her missing companion, exemplifying the highest commitment our community has for the safety and welfare of all our visiting guests.”

“Because I was very impressed with Dennis Reyes’ deeds on June 5, I felt compelled to publicly recognize him with a Good Samaritan Award from the Tinian Mayor’s Office,” said Dela Cruz. “This young man deserves our thanks and respect for rescuing a distressed swimmer and for searching for her travel companion after the two tourists were swept away by strong currents.”

“Dennis acted quickly and decisively in calling for help, in pulling a swimmer out of the water, and in searching for her missing travel companion,” added Dela Cruz.

“While working at a tour company, Dennis was at the place where the tourists needed assistance, and he acted to save lives,” said Dela Cruz. “We are proud of his efforts.”

Reyes is the son of William C. and Manuela S. Reyes. (PR)
