Children on Tinian had a happy Christmas this year as they were also beneficiaries of the “Toys for Tots” toy drive of Karidat Social Services.

Karidat executive director Angie V. Guerrero said yesterday that a boxful of their remaining toys from the toy drive was sent to Tinian on Dec. 23 and were distributed to the children by board member Frances H. Diaz.

Guerrero believes that the freight and shipping expenses for the donated toys were shouldered by the Tinian delegation.

“A lot of individuals came down to our office and dropped off toys between Dec. 22 and 23 or after the two-week deadline for the toy drive,” Guerrero told Saipan Tribune. “We had more than enough toys for Saipan that we gave the extra toys to Tinian.”

Some of the toy donors, Guerrero said, wanted to remain anonymous about their donations and just dropped them off at the Karidat office in Chalan Kanoa.

Guerrero noted that there were a lot of less fortunate families on island who went to Karidat and requested for toys for their children. She disclosed that they had two volunteers who helped separate and match the toys with the children on their client list.

She thanked the Society for Human Resources Management – NMI Chapter for accepting the challenge to partner with Karidat for this year’s Toys for Tots. Guerrero also extended her appreciation to other businesses, organizations, and individuals who all helped make the toy drive “a great success.”

“Despite all the economic challenges, people still came through to help in our toy drive. People still have the heart to care for others who are less fortunate. We are blessed to have people in our community who possess the virtues of sharing and bringing happiness and cheers to others,” added Guerrero.
