Gary Michael Cruz Cepeda, a maintenance worker of the Tinian Department of Community and Cultural Affairs who was arrested for allegedly committing traffic offenses and possession of methamphetamine or “ice” in San Jose, Tinian, pleaded not guilty yesterday.

Cepeda, 48, through assistant public defender Matthew Meyer, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment before Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja.

Assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda appeared for the government.

Naraja set a status conference for Jan. 15, 2016, at 9am.

Police detective Rudolfo S. Hermosilla Jr. and another police officer were doing a routine patrol last Nov. 13 at 9:12pm along Bank of Guam Route 201 in San Jose, Tinian when they saw a vehicle with no taillights heading north on a gravel road.

Hermosilla said they did a violator stop and the driver, identified as Cepeda, stated that he did not have with him his driver’s license and car registration.

Cepeda later allegedly confessed he had “ice” in his left pocket.

Hermosilla said the crystalline substance in the straw tested presumptive positive for “ice.”
