Seventy-five years after the U.S. Marine Corp invaded the beaches of Tinian during World War II, the Tinian Junior/Senior High School cadets paid a special tribute together with three members of the U.S. Marine Corp.

The tribute last June 13 was one of the events for the 75th Anniversary of the Battles of Saipan & Tinian and took place at Invasion Beach, Tinian. With the members of the USMC following behind the TJSHS cadets, the Marine Corp flag flying in the wind, and the feel of goosebumps as TAPS played we honored those who have sacrificed their lives during World War II.

The members of the Tinian community and Mayor Edwin P. Aldan were present and stood silently in solemn respect to the tribute.

Tania Marie Mendiola with CNMI Veterans Affairs Office and as the Tinian event coordinator for the 75th Anniversary of the Battles of Saipan & Tinian and the rest of the committee extend their gratitude to the TJSHS JROTC, USMC, and Aldan and staff for their hard work and dedication to the upcoming events being held on Tinian. The community has also placed 2,000 flags from the Tinian Airport all along Broadway, Natibu Park and up to the Veterans Memorial Park.

Tinian also had a Walk of Honor and released 75 lanterns last June 14 from Natibu Park to the Veterans Memorial Park. (PR)
