Louie Tilipao bagged the Refaluwasch Golf Association March Ace of the Month after pulling off a two-stroke win in last month’s tournament at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Tilipao shot a net 65 last March 23, prevailing by two strokes against Ron Choi and beating the net 71 RGA president Ray Tigilau recorded in the qualifying competition early last month, also at the Talafofo facility. The 13-handicapper Tilipao fired a 5-over 41 in the first nine holes and played better in the last nine with his 1-over par 37 for a net score of 78. He saved par in the first five holes on the back nines, birdied the par-3 No. 15 and had two bogeys and a par in the final three holes. The March champion, who now qualifies for the season-ending club championship, also had pars in five of the nine holes from the front nines and double-bogeyed only one hole for a good round at Kingfisher.

Tilipao tied Choi for the best gross score in the March tournament, but the latter settled for runner-up honors, as his 11 handicap gave him a net 67. Choi had a 40 and 38 on the front and bike nines, respectively. Tigilao dropped to third, although he surpassed his qualifying round score after tallying a net 68. The RGA president had a 44 on the front nine and a 37 on the back, gaining birdies on the par-5 No. 13 and par-4 No. 13, but double bogeyed four holes to fail on his bid for the March plum.

Nine other RGA members joined last month’s tournament. The list includes David Apatang (net 71), Harry Nakamura (74), Anthony Benavente (75), Ulyses Kapileo (75), Tars Olopai (76), Joe Saures (77), Frank Flores (78), Tom Tebuteb (81), and Manny Mangarero (87).

Meanwhile, RGA had his April Ace qualifying tournament last Sunday at the Marianas Country Club and results of the competition will be reported later this month.
