Thundercats takes early division lead

The Thundercats moved on top of the lead in Division 2 of the 2016 M-League following a 2-1 win against the CNMI Women’s National Team last Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Timothy Tawanpiy and Peter Oh scored one goal apiece to lift the Thundercats to a 2-0-0 win-draw-loss record in the division and ahead of Shirley’s FC (1-0-1), WNT (1-0-1), Sun Palace (0-1-0), World Resort (0-1-1), and Kanoa FC (0-0-1).

Tawanpiy put the Thundercats on the board in the 44th minute, while Oh got his goal in the 59th. Jeralyn Castillo drilled the lone goal for the WNT with her shot in the 63rd.

In other results in Division 2, Sun Palace and World Resort engaged in a scoreless draw, while Shirley’s won via default against Kanoa FC.

In Division 1, MP United and Korean Football Association on Saipan won their spring season-opening games.

MP United eked out a 1-0 victory over Paire/Inter, thanks to Sun Joon Tenorio’s goal in the 17th minute.

KFAS, on the other hand, cruised past Matansa, 5-0. Five different players scored in KFAS’ rousing start with Ji Sung Cha drawing first blood in the 11th minute. KFAS earned one more goal in the first half, courtesy of Young Ju Lee in the 35th, while the last three came from Brian Lee (48th), Jong Gu Gil (62nd), and Edwin Kim (70th).

Meanwhile, four games will be played in Week 3 of the M-League. Tomorrow, the Thundercats, which downed World Resorts in its first game, 2-0, will go for win No. 3 against Kanoa at 4:30pm. Then on Sunday, the pairings will be Sun Palace vs Shirley’s at 1:30pm, Matansa vs Tan Holdings at 3pm, and WNT vs World Resort at 4:30pm.
