Three more sponsors have joined the 2014 Marianas March Against Cancer, the signature fund drive of the Commonwealth Cancer Association.
Sorensen Media Group and Marianas Variety signed up as title sponsors of this year’s edition of the MMAC, each donating more than $3,000 in cash or in-kind donations. Marianas Pacific Distributors signed up as a major sponsor, donating $1,000 in cash and in-kind donations of beverages and other amenities for the MMAC.

Sorensen, which runs Power 99 and ABC7 on Saipan, donated over $5,000 worth of promotions such as radio advertisements and studio interviews.

Sorensen manager Tina Palacios said they have been a supporter of MMAC since it was still called Relay for Life.

“Power 99 has always been a supporter and continue to do that every year and it’s one cause that we want to be a part of,” Palacios said.

She said that as long as there is hope they will always be part of MMAC.

“Last year I lost two brothers to cancer, my mom’s sister passed away, two of my cousins are battling breast cancer, and my good friend is battling stomach cancer…so it is personal and we will continue to be part of this cause,” Palacios said.

Marianas Variety donated $3,000 worth of advertising space. The newspaper’s publisher Laila Boyer said, “We have been supporting the MMAC and Relay for Life. …We are planning on moving forward with them,” Boyer said.

She also said that Marianas Variety has had booths and a team as well in the past and encourages community members to support the fight against cancer.

Marianas Pacific Distributors resident manager Guy Pudney said that they are happy to partner with MMAC. “We have been supporting for many years and this is the first year that I’ve been here that we actually made monetary contributions,” Pudney said.

Pudney also noted that they support the MMAC on behalf of Marpac’s operations manager, Phil Mendiola, who is a cancer survivor.

“Within the past four to five years we’ve actually lost two family members from my wife’s side of the family. Cancer is a disease that affects everyone either directly or indirectly, and in one way or another we will support this cause,” he said.

Manny Borja, 2014 MMAC overall committee chairman, was grateful for the three companies’ contributions. “We are thankful that they have donated to the MMAC and they have been sponsors for awhile, and we are happy to be working together for the cause,” Borja said.

The 2014 MMAC will be held on May 2 and May 3, 2014, from 6pm to 6am at the Hopwood Junior High School field in Chalan Piao.
