A thief spoiled three boys’ fishing fun at Tank Beach in Kagman Saturday morning when he stole their two rods and poles, all worth $800.
Saipan Tribune learned that the boys, all friends and ages 14 years old, chased the suspect on their bicycles but he managed to escape aboard a blue sedan, possibly with license plate ACU-574.
The boys described the suspect as a resident, approximately 60 years old, with dark complexion, and was wearing a red pinkish polo shirt. The boys said the suspect was with a woman who was carrying an infant. The stolen items were two fishing poles with wheels—a Shimano wheel with fiberglass pole and a Penn wheel with a stick pole. The gear is valued at $400 each.
Saipan Tribune gathered that the boys had gone to Tank Beach on their bicycles. As they were fishing, one later left to get more bait from a store.
The two other friends left their fishing gear under a bush and left to catch up with their friend. After a few minutes, the three boys proceeded to the beach and saw the suspect taking their rods and poles from the bush. The suspect was with a woman in white shirt holding a baby. The suspect got on his car and exited through the main entrance of the beach without the woman and the baby.
The bicycle-riding boys chased the suspect’s car. After two minutes, the suspect drove back to pick up the woman and her baby.
The car then left and the boys chased them on bikes again.
One of the boys managed to get photos of the vehicle as it was speeding away. The boys then reported the matter to Kagman police substation. Polic scoured the Kagman area but could not find the car.
When the incident happened, a vendor selling coconut and apigigi at the main entrance of Tank Beach was still not there. When the vendor started operating at Tank Beach a few months ago, burglars stopped victimizing tourists and locals in that area, some Kagman residents told Saipan Tribune.
