MP United’s Sun Joon Tenorio bagged the MVP award in the Pacific Ocean Cup 3, while the club’s U12 team gained the runner-honors in last Sunday’s tournament in Japan.
According to an email MP United Football Club president Vickie Izuka sent to Saipan Tribune yesterday, Tenorio took the coveted award for scoring the most goals (six) in the four-team competition held in Inno Gotemba in Shizuoka. Also scoring goals for MP United were Jon and Gillian Villagomez, while other members of the team are Francesca Bucalig, Maaya Sato, Maury Zon Tybaco, Geon Ho Lee, Daniele Colombo, Eun Syu Hahn, Edwin Kim, Steven Goodwin, Christian Bravo, and Seung Mok You. James McAllister is the team’s coach and is assisted by Chris Park. May Ling Colombo and Angelina Villagomez are the co-team managers.
MP United started its bid in the Pacific Ocean Cup with a loss to FC Hamasuka (scores were unavailable) and then swept its last three games (versus Yamanakako FC and hosts Vivid Blue A and B) to place second in the one-day tournament.
“Our players played great and gave their all. The overall MVP for the Cup is our very own Sun Joon Perry Tenorio. Everyone played beyond expectations and showed awesome sportsmanship. They ended their final night having dinner at a restaurant with the players and families of our sister team Vivid Blue. Today (yesterday) they will be traveling to Tokyo Disneyland to spend the entire day before heading to Narita late in the afternoon for their flight home,” Joseph Villagomez stated in an email forward to Izuka and parents of all players.
The MP United players, coaches, and officials were scheduled to arrive early this morning and are expected to return to practice in a few days as they will also complete in the second leg of the Pacific Ocean Cup.
MP United will host this weekend’s (March 30) Pacific Ocean Cup 4 and this time Vivid Blue will bring its U12 team to Saipan to compete against its sister club and two others—Shirley’s Football Club and Tinian Premier Football Club. The host club is fielding two teams in the tournament that will take place at the Koblerville Elementary School Field from 9:30am to 4pm.
