Temporary water interruption in Gualo Rai

Share

Commonwealth Utilities Corp. customers in the village of Gualo Rai may experience a temporary water service interruption next week as contractors fill the storage tanks that will temporarily replace the dilapidated Gualo Rai reservoir.

An inspection of the 200,000-gallon Gualo Rai tank revealed severe corrosion of the welded steel tank shell that threatens serviceability. The project was identified as a critical need for continued reliable water storage in the Gualo Rai community.

The tank replacement originated as a Water Task Force project and was later contracted to USA Fanter Inc. On Wednesday, Feb. 17, USA Fanter Inc. will begin filling each of the four 50,000-gallon temporary storage tanks that will service the area until the project’s scheduled completion date in May 2016.

Customers may experience a service interruption during the construction process and reduced water pressure while the tanks are filled for the first time. Once the temporary tanks are fully integrated into the water distribution system, contractors will dismantle the existing rusted steel structure and replace it with a concrete tank.
