The Superior Court has slapped a 72-hour jail term against a teenager who acted as if she was going to set on fire their kitchen table.
Associate judge David Wiseman sentenced the 19-year-old Kaholani Lynn Hocog to three months in jail, all suspended except for the 72 hours that she already served in prison.
Wiseman placed Hocog on probation for six months and ordered her to perform 50 hours of community work service.
The judge required the defendant to complete anger management counseling and submit to an alcohol and drug assessment.
Hocog was ordered to pay a $100 fine and $25 court assessment fee, plus a probation fee.
Wiseman said upon successful completion of the sentence, Hocog will be discharged and the judgment of conviction will be vacated.
The Office of the Attorney General charged Hocog with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.
The defendant pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace. The OAG dismissed the remaining charge.
The plea agreement stated that on April 7, 2011 on Saipan, Hocog threw pillows at her sister and her sister’s children.
The defendant then acted as if she was going to set the kitchen table on fire.
Detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that a patrol police officer responded to a residence in Dandan on April 7 at 10:31pm after receiving a call about a disturbance.
The officer learned that Hocog had a fight with her sister and later played with a lighter as if she was attempting to burn the kitchen table.
