Team OG, MVP Stars, KFC Bombers get victories in Super Saturday

In the first of two Super Saturdays in the Triton Men’s Basketball League regular season, Team OG, the MVP Stars, and the KFC Bombers collected victories to close out the first half of the season at the UOG Calvo Field House on March 26.

In the first game of the day, Team OG defeated the UOG Tritons, 79-60.

The host Tritons played well in the first quarter and trailed OG, 21-18, but UOG could only score 10 points in the 2nd quarter and were down 43-28 at half-time as Team OG scored 22 points in the period.

The Tritons showed fight in the third period, outscoring OG early in the period to trail by only four points at one point, but Team OG came back later in the period to outscore the Tritons, 20-15, overall and lead 69-53 at the end of the third period.

Team OG continued the push in the fourth period led by Alshae Grape with 9 points in the quarter to outscore UOG 31-16 and win the game, 79-60.

Alshae Grape led Team OG with 33 points. Diane’ “D” Blackmon led UOG with 14 points.

Team OG moved to 2-3 in the Triton League, while UOG dropped to 0-5 in the league.

In the second game of the afternoon, the MVP Stars beat Team Wu Tang, 115-91.

Wu Tang started the game slowly, only scoring 11 points in the first quarter as the MVPs took a 21-11 lead after the first 10 minutes. But both the Stars and Wu Tang got hot in the 2nd period, with the MVPs scoring 31 points while Wu Tang put up 30 points as the MVPs led 52-41 at half-time.

Wu Tang got really hot shooting in the third period, putting up 35 points in the quarter to pull within 4 points late in the third period and to trail by 6 after 30 minutes, 82-76.

But Wu Tang could not keep up the pace and cooled to only 15 points in the fourth quarter while J.P. Cruz put in 16 points himself in the period for the Stars as the MVPs won the game, 115-91.

Cruz led the Stars with 32 points, while Argie Flores added 30 points and Joe Blas scored 28 points. Dana Holmes scored 23 points for Wu Tang and Art Manshin added 18.

The MVP Stars move to 5-0 in the league at the half-way point while Wu Tang falls to 3-2.

In the third and final game of the day, the KFC Bombers defeated the M.B.I. Four Stars, 105-80.

The Four Stars opened the game well, outscoring the Bombers, 16-15, in the first quarter and hung with the Bombers in the second period, being outscored, 31-26, to trail, 46-41, at half-time.

The Four Stars continued to battle the Bombers in the third period, battling to a 25-24 third period score and trailing the game, 71-66, going into the final period.

But the bigger and stronger KFC Bombers had worn the Four Stars down in the first 30 minutes of play and went on to outscore M.B.I., 34-12, in the final 10 minutes to win the game 105-80.

Jaden Finley led the KFC Bombers with 30 points while Divine Cox added 18 points. Simina Rod scored 22 points for the Four Stars.
