Team Marianas falls to MIBBC in Guam

GUAM—Both the men’s and women’s team of Team Marianas fell to Micronesian Islands Ballers Basketball Club in the 2nd Annual Friendship Games sponsored by Triton Athletics and Field House Department last Saturday at the UOG Calvo Field House.
The Team Marianas men took a 2-0 lead in their match-up with the MIBBC, but the team from the CNMI would not lead again, as MIBBC dominated play in the game, leading 25-14 at the end of the first quarter and 48-25 at halftime.
MIBBC would push their lead to 30 points after the third period, 72-42 and follow with a final victory of 92-56. Kirston Guzman led MIBBC with 18 points while Dean Weibacher added 15 and Aunu Jerfick dropped 14. Ervin Villarin led Team Marianas with 16 points.
Team Marianas finished its Friendship Games assignement with a 4pm match-up yesterday with the UOG Tritons.
In what can be called an ugly and sluggish game, the MIBBC women defeated Team Marianas women, 51-
50.

In the opening quarter, Team Marianas took an early lead, 8-0, as MIBBC would not score for the first seven minutes of the game, but MIBBC would have a spurt to close the first 10 minutes and Team Marianas would lead, 11-7, after one period. Both teams’ offenses would open up in the second quarter as MIBBC outscored Team Marianas 20-16 in the second 10-minute period and the game would be tied at halftime, 27-27.
The third period was back and forth with Team Marianas leading, 40-39, going into the final quarter. Team Marianas had a 5-point lead going into the final minutes, but MIBBC would surge past them to a 51-48 lead in the final seconds. Team Marianas had a chance to tie the game in the last few seconds, but missed a 3-point shot and scored a 2-pointer on the rebound, but MIBBC won the game 51-50.
Hope Kanemoto and Carissa Eter led MIBBC with 13 points each, while Destiny Pangelinan led all scorers with 16 points for Team Marianas.
Team Marianas women’s squad finished the Friendship Games with a match-up against the UOG Tritons yesterday starting at 2pm. (PR)
