For the first time, Advanced Language & Academic Institute and the Saipan Community School join forces to form a team to debut at the 2012 Marianas March Against Cancer happening tonight at 6pm at the Hopwood Jr. High School field.

Comprised of students, teachers, other staff, and parents of both schools, Team ALAI/SCS is headed by captains Nina Rivera, Travis Hurst, and C.J. Libut.

Both schools were inspired to form a team by Clarie Kosack, a yoga instructor and breast cancer survivor. The team admires Kosack, whom they described as a strong and discerning woman for what she has gone through. “Her journey is truly a phenomenal one.”

Fundraising efforts of Team ALAI/SCS will include selling snacks and drinks at their tent. They also plan to pass out fliers and pamphlets to those who will be attending tonight’s event.

Team ALAI/SCS noted that the annual MMAC event makes the community “understand that no one is alone” in the fight against cancer.

“Forming a team has been a great way to get everyone excited about helping others. It gave a wonderful opportunity to opening the eyes of students about a very real and very sad disease,” they added.
