Power at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino was disconnected last Friday and although the hotel has a backup generator running for three hours a day, they only anticipate enough fuel to run fuel for the next seven days.

This means the hotel’s barracks will be “totally uninhabitable” by Monday, June 26, Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas said in a letter to the local heads of the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter and The Salvation Army yesterday.

“TDHC has advised that they have enough food on the premises to continue to provide three meals a day to the employees for 30 days,” San Nicolas wrote.

He added that the Tinian municipality would be providing temporary shelter for affected employees at the Tinian Gymnasium and Tinian Youth Center beginning Monday, June 26, at 2pm. He added both gym and youth center have restroom and shower facilities to accommodate the displaced workers.

He requested items that workers will need such as mosquito coils, toilet paper, paper towels, drinking water, laundry soap, electric fans, butane gas, canned goods, trash bins, trash bags, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body soap, and tents.

“Although TDHC has 30 days’ worth of food, the fact that there is no power will compromise frozen items within the walk-in freezer at the site,” San Nicolas said, as he went on to request deep freezers and portable generators.

San Nicolas also informs the groups that the United Filipino Association and Tinian Marianas Lions Club are accepting monetary donations for the affected employees, and all residents who wish to donate items may drop them to SN-5 Shipping at Lower Base, and can contact Carla San Nicolas at 322-0516 for more information.
