Tropical Depression 01W has shifted course and no longer poses a threat to the CNMI.

According to the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, the latest forecast track for Tropical Depression 01W has shifted southward, passing south of Guam around Friday or Saturday.

At 10am yesterday, Tropical Depression 01W was still located in the Marshall Islands, moving north-northwest at 7 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph.

The forecast stated that Tropical Depression 01W remains a poorly-organized depression but is still expected to gradually intensify as it continues north-northwest through the Marshall Islands with a gradual turn toward the west-northwest on Monday. Tropical Depression 01W could become a tropical storm Monday.

The NWS would like to urge the community verify the authenticity of weather information.

“We’ve received numerous reports of an audio recording circulating via social media claiming a possible typhoon or super typhoon threatening Guam on Monday/Tuesday. This recording is believed to have originated following a weather brief on Typhoon Mangkhut in September. If you receive weather information via social media, verify its authenticity,” NWS said.
