Taya Plastic Tuesday starts today!

Share

Starting today, Feb.24, Tuesdays are getting greener. On this day (and all future Tuesdays) Joeten will not distribute any plastic bags—Joeten grocery stores and their customers will say no to plastic bags by using boxes, paper bags, or reusable shopping bags. On Tuesdays, Joeten stores will charge 10 cents for a paper bag and sell MINA-Joeten eco bags for 99 cents. A portion of the proceeds will support MINA’s efforts to protect and preserve our natural environment.

To kick off Taya Plastic Tuesday, MINA and Joeten are celebrating the effort with the help of CNMI volunteer superstars. The event will be held at Joeten Susupe, Joeten Dandan, Joeten Kagman, and Joeten Hafa Adai from 5pm to 6pm. During the event, volunteers will bag groceries and hand out reusable eco bags to encourage the community to reduce the use of plastic bags.

“This is a great way for the community to begin participating in our Plastic Bag Challenge campaign,” said program manager Becky Furey. “Starting this Tuesday, and every day after that, we challenge the CNMI to say no to plastic bags. MINA wants to thank Joeten for their commitment to decreasing plastic bag pollution around our island.”
