The 17th Annual Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival & Beer Garden will feature its first-ever magic and yo-yo show in the back stage this Saturday, May 16, starting at 8pm.
The event brings some of the best of island cuisine and entertainment to American Memorial Park every Saturday evening beginning at 6pm in May as part of the monthlong celebration of Tourism Month in the Northern Mariana Islands.
“With five Saturdays this year, we decided to bring in something new and exciting with a magic show featuring Joel “Prinze” Salvosa and a yo-yo exhibition by Julius Rey D. Barro in week three,” said Marianas Visitors Authority Community Projects manager Martin Duenas.
The MVA, the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the National Park Service jointly host the annual event.
Revelers joined two heats of the Pie Eating Competition last Saturday, May 9, with repeat winners from the Hotdog Eating Competition on May 2 also placing in Saturday’s adult heat. Simon Necesito, second place finisher in the Hotdog Eating Competition, polished off his Herman’s Modern Bakery sweet potato pie first on Saturday. Raymond Emul, who finished third the previous week, took second place in the Pie Eating Competition, while John Lewis finished third.
In the youth division, Eric Enriquez finished first, followed by Joel Fruit in second place, and Conall Hartig rounding out the winners in third place. The winners walked away with $50, $30, and $20 worth of Taste tokens.
“Almost everyone comes to the Taste of the Marianas with a good appetite,” said Duenas, “especially some of our contest competitors!”
In addition to the magic show, this Saturday’s entertainment lineup includes Saipan Southern Manta Ray Band, Uncle Ben’s Music & Dance, Luis La Forte, Teivi Maori, and Blue Dream Band.
Taste of the Marianas offers international cuisine at affordable prices by 15 hotels and restaurant vendors, three beverage vendors, non-stop live entertainment on the main stage, nightly contests on the secondary stage, and arts and crafts sales. (MVA)
