TanHoldings, GPPC top opponents
TanHoldings kept its unbeaten record, while GPPC barged into the win column of the JEM Company Ltd./Mobil Customer Appreciation Basketball League.
TanHoldings gained its third victory in as many games following a 97-66 rout of McDonald’s last Tuesday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium, while GPPC snapped its two-game losing skid after downing Docomo last Friday, 68-55.
GPPC got its fourth win after a strong finish, as the team hit its target in the final canto. The payoff period began with the game in a deadlock, 44-all, and GPPC went on to pull away slowly with Aba Tagle and Raymond Santos teaming up in the final push. Tagle scored all his 11 points in the fourth frame, while Santos added seven off his 11 in that pivotal quarter.
Alex Ocampo and Randy Mungcal also recorded double figures with 20 and 14, respectively, and their baskets early in the game allowed GPPC to take the driver’s seat in the first half before Docomo forced a standoff in the third period.
Docomo then folded up in the fourth canto, making only five field goals. Docomo tied GPPC’s 1-2 record to remain at the bottom half of the team standings in Pool A.
Meanwhile, TanHoldings leads Pool A following its demolition of McDonald’s.
TanHoldings played without Ernest and Matt Duenas, but had no problem giving McDonald’s a beating as Lerio Pagarao and Douglas Schmidt were there to provide firepower to the division-leading team. Pagarao had 28 points in his debut in the league, while Schmidt chipped in 25.
