The Northern Marianas Trades Institute last May 2 received a donation of 300 polo shirts with its logo embroidered from Island Apparel, a Tan Holdings company. The bequest of the shirts is estimated to be valued at $4,500.Aside from the in-kind contribution, Tan Holdings has committed an additional $1,000 in funds, thus making their total contribution valued at $5,500. NMTI’s post Soudelour efforts continue until this day. NMTI’s staff are continuously renovating damaged classrooms not eligible for federal typhoon relief funding. The construction efforts are mainly aimed at accommodating for the growing interest in the community for such trades as automotive, culinary arts, construction, hotel, and restaurant occupations.
The trade school received the exciting news of the Tan Holdings donation from David M. Sablan of Century Insurance. Sablan was on hand to receive the NMTI students that were present for the official handing of the donation. Victorino Cepeda, director of External Relations said, “as many of our students are entering the job market, we are finding that businesses are happy with the skill sets earned. NMTI will continue to seek help from other enterprises as a community is only as strong as the members that comprise it.”
The polo shirt donations will be sold by the school primarily to students and faculty to raise funds toward its classroom expansion efforts. “The contribution by one of Micronesia’s largest conglomerates is an indication that they believe in what NMTI’s function is within our community. We thank Tan Holdings for holding on to that belief and continuing to provide the much needed assistance” according to Agnes McPhetres, NMTI CEO. McPhetres’ comment relates to her call for assistance from the business community to sponsor the erection of a new culinary arts classroom and other program functions in need of additional funds. (PR)
