Tan Holdings Football Club opened its campaign in the spring season of the 2016 M-League with a bang after hammering Matansa FC, 7-0 , last Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Sean Perez and Martin Jambor joined forces in lifting Tan Holdings to the easy win, as the latter drilled four goals, while the former added three. Perez and Jambor knocked in two goals apiece in the first half to set up the lopsided win and they remained on target in the second to give Tan Holdings the temporary lead in Division 1.

Tan Holdings’ 1-0-0 win-draw-loss record is the same mark Korean Football Association on Saipan and MP United have, but the former is ahead in the team standings in the five-squad field with its seven goals. MP United and KFAS tallied one and five goals in their first games, respectively. Paire FC/Inter Godfather’s (1-0-1) complete the field.

Meanwhile, the Thundercats kept the lead in Division 2, while Sun Palace and World Resort barged into the win column.

The Thundecats improved to a 2-1-0 record after a 1-1 draw against Kanoa FC (0-1-1). Peter Oh hit the equalizer in the 43rd minute to foil Kanoa’s upset bid. Kanoa scored the first goal in the match, courtesy of Keeanu Diaz’s shot in the 41st minute of last Saturday’s lone game.

Action in Division 1 continued last Sunday with Sun Palace beating Shirley’s FC and World Resort topping the Women’s National Team in similar scores, 3-1.

The Sun Palace-Shirley’s FC tiff was played first with the former getting goals from three different players to notch its first win of the season after debuting with a 0-0 draw against World Resort. Jun Sik Kim nailed the first goal for Sun Palace in the sixth minute, while the last two came from Jin Guang Zhi and Chun Feng Jin, who lit up the board in the 52nd and 58th minute.

Kazuaki Togo tallied the only goal for Shirley’s FC, which absorbed its second loss against one win.

In the third Division 2 match last weekend, World Resort also had three different players contributing to the team’s cause. Daniel Agulto scored in the first half, while Dhiraj Chhetri and Janta Tamang found the back of the net in the second half. Jeraldine Castillo posted the lone goal for the WNT, which dropped its second straight game after opening the season with a 3-2 victory versus Shirley’s FC.

Castillo and company hope to get back on track this Saturday when they take on Kanoa at 4:30pm. Other Divison 2 matches scheduled this weekend (Sunday) are Thundercats vs Sun Palace at 3pm and World Resort vs Shirley’s at 4:30pm. In Division 1, the Sunday pairings are as follows: Paire/Inter vs Tan Holdinsg at 12pm and MP United vs KFAS at 1:30pm.
