The Taga Kids, the island’s age group and relay triathlon event for under 12 children, returns this Saturday after being shelved for more than three years.
The race starts at 6am at Paupau Beach and is divided into two divisions: 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 age groups. The swim-bike-run course will be taking place around Paupau Beach to ensure the safety of all participants. Registration is free and can be done at saipantriathlon.com. Sign up ends on March 15 and there won’t be any race day registration.
The course for the 5- to 8-year-old participants will feature a 50-meter swim and one loop each in the bike and run legs. A 100-m swim and two loops in the bike and run portions will be the course for the 9 to 12 age group.
The Taga Kids, organized by the Triathlon Association of the CNMI and supported in part by the Marianas Visitors Authority, is sort of a teaser event for next week’s Tagaman. Participants who will complete the race will receive a finisher’s medal and shirt, while the top overall for each age group will get separate medals.
Before being shelved, the Taga Kids was held the day after the Tagaman, as youngsters and other budding triathletes got a taste of a scaled-down version of the CNMI’s longest-running triathlon event.
T Galleria, Kanoa Resort, IT&E, TanHoldings, Brabu Pharmacy, Hyatt Regency Saipan, MARPAC, Island Rent-A-Car, Triple J, Bridge Capital, Tri Tour, GU, Powerade, and J.C. Tenorio Enterprises are the sponsors of this year’s event.
