A 44-year-old woman was injured when a group of masked persons beat her up, tied her arms behind her back, and taped her mouth during a robbery at her residence in Gualo Rai on early Monday morning.

The suspects managed to take only a cell phone as they ran away when the victim’s roommate arrived at the house, police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries to the face. She refused to be brought to the hospital.

Police Officer Jason Tarkong said yesterday that the NMI Crime Stoppers Program is seeking public’s help for information about the suspects.

Tarkong said police officers responded to the victim’s residence on Monday at 2:47am, and found her in the living room with her hands tied behind her back and tape covering her mouth.

Tarkong said the police learned that the victim was asleep in her bedroom when she was awakened by the sound of a bedroom window being shattered.

Three to five suspects, possibly male, dressed in black clothing and wearing black masks and dark shoes, entered the victim’s bedroom.

The victim ran down the hallway, but the suspects captured her. The suspects punched her on the head several times and tied her arms and taped her mouth shut.

During the beating, the victim’s roommate arrived, prompting the suspects to escape through the window.

The victim ran away to the neighbors’ for help and the police were then contacted.

The Department of Public Safety and Crime Stoppers need the public’s help for information about the case or on the identity of the suspects, said Tarkong, who is also coordinator for Crime Stoppers.
