CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force agents arrested on Tuesday morning a suspected trafficker of methamphetamine or “ice” on Tinian.

Yingzi Zhang Pangelinan, 55, also known as Gina, was served with an arrest warrant on Tinian on charges of trafficking of a controlled substance and conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance.

Her bail was set at $100,000 cash yesterday; preliminary hearing will be on Sept. 12. Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig was appointed as counsel for Pangelinan.

Police sergeant George Fleming David disclosed that based on their surveillance, information provided by a cooperating source, and his observations, he believes that Pangelinan has been using her house in San Jose, Tinian to facilitate the sale of illegal drugs.

David said their cooperating source, accompanied by an undercover police sergeant, managed to buy $500 worth or 1.4 gross grams of “ice” from Pangelinan during a controlled purchase operation last Monday.

David said the cooperating source and the undercover agent proceeded to Pangelinan’s house for the drug transaction, but the defendant instructed them to follow her.

Upon reaching the Cha Cha Poker building complex, the defendant allegedly instructed the cooperating source to pick up the “ice” placed in a cigarette pack and hidden underneath an abandoned vehicle.

David said the substance tested presumptive positive for the presence of meth.
