Police arrested in Fina Sisu Tuesday afternoon a 54-year-old man for allegedly trafficking in methamphetamine or “ice.”

Edward Mendiola was taken to the Superior Court yesterday morning for a bail hearing on charges of trafficking and illegal possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $30,000 cash. Assistant public defender Benjamin Petersburg served as his counsel.

Police detective Steven A. Castro stated in his report that two “cooperating sources” told detectives that Mendiola is active in selling “ice” within Fina Sisu village. The two “cooperating sources” informed the detectives that they managed to buy $100 worth of “ice” from Mendiola on Nov. 2, 2011.

The CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force and the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau did a sting operation against Mendiola on Nov. 9, 2011. Castro said they were able to buy $100 worth of “ice” from Mendiola at his residence in Fina Sisu, using one “cooperating source.”
