The SPC Survivors have won two in a row with their latest win against the Blue Jays, 9-6, in the 2023 Tan Holdings-Saipan Baseball League last Tuesday night at the Francisco “Tan Ko”Baseball Field.
The Survivors had their game face on and drew first blood in the first inning for a 1-0 lead off a double by Austin Hocog. Before they could add more though, three outs were on the board from ground outs.
It didn’t take long for the Blue Jays to retaliate as they tied it up 1-1 in their at-bat. The leadoff batter, James Salalila, took a walk to first base and put himself into scoring position after he stole second and third base. He was then brought home by Russell Hocog.
The Blue Jays took the lead early in the second when they added one more after Kyle Foreman hit a long double into the outfield and came home from a base hit by Salalila.
The Survivors then fought back in the third inning as Blue Jays pitching began to crumble when Alfred Manglona walked four batters, who then were brought in when they were moved up to scoring positions. J.P. Castro reached on an error and J.T. Tydingco took advantage of runners in scoring position as he belted a three-RBI single.
The Blue Jays were down four runs, 2-6, and tried to close the gap but only put up two runs in the third inning. The Survivors survived the next four innings as their pitching held strong and true when the Blue Jays could only knock in two more runs.
The Survivors’ offense continued to put runs on the board and lengthened their lead. In the fifth inning, Austin Hocog hit another double and came home on a single by JBoy Mendiola, who in turn scored on a single by Brell Yobech. In the next inning, the Survivors scored one more run for a 9-5 lead.
The Blue Jays scored their last run in the sixth inning and couldn’t make it past a tough Survivors pitcher in the last inning for a final score of 6-9.
The Survivors are now 3-6 in the win-loss standings and the Blue Jays have a 4-5 record .
