No less than 17 testimonies from the public and private sectors expressed support for the confirmation of acting Commerce secretary Mark O. Rabauliman.

Rabauliman on Wednesday faced a public hearing by the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation following his appointment to the Commerce posts several months back.

Lawmakers, former co-workers in various private institutions, and colleagues at the Commerce Department gave glimmering testimonies, focusing on the 39-year-old Rabauliman’s curriculum vitae and his vast experience.

In his opening statement in front of the committee, Rabauliman promised to focus on programs such as revolving funds, micro loans, and the promotion of proper regulatory processes in the department.

He also promised to focus on the department’s Central Statistics Division, noting that it needs to be beefed up owing to the importance of data when it comes to policy-making.

In an interview, he also said one of the top concerns he will tackle is how to revive entrepreneurship in the Commonwealth, adding that achieving a balance between foreign and domestic investments remain a “tough challenge.”

Following the Senate public hearing, a session will be held to determine if Rabauliman will indeed be appointed the Commerce Department’s top post.
