In support of its upcoming 40th anniversary in the CNMI, Hyatt Regency Saipan is proud to present an exclusive sumo wrestling experience with Saipan students.

On Saturday, Feb. 15, at 12pm Hyatt Regency will turn the beach side area into a dohyu like it did in 2015’s sumo wrestler visit and introduce this year’s visiting sumo wrestlers and the ancient art of sumo wrestling with select CNMI Public School System students.

Sponsored and guided by the president of Saipan Portopia Hotel Corp. and owner of Hyatt Regency Saipan, Hitoshi Nakauchi is very proud to share with 200 PSS students and a parent the sport of sumo wrestling, Japan’s traditional sport.

“It is difficult to organize and sponsor any private sumo wrestler appearances, and have them travel outside of Japan,” said Hyatt Regency Saipan general manager Nick Nishikawa. “And we are very lucky and honored to have the hotel owner bring this event to Saipan.”

Alongside the fun event of meeting the visiting sumo wrestlers, Hyatt Regency Saipan will be serving chanko nabe, the staple food of sumo wrestlers for lunch. It is a hot pot dish that comes in many varieties and contains vegetables, seafood, and meat.

There are only 200 spaces available. These have been provided to the CNMI Public School System who will distribute to selected students. For more information, call +1 670 234 1234 ext. 26. (PR)
