SUFA softball fundraising tournament this weekend
Proceeds from the tournament will go toward the group’s trip to Boise, Idaho where they will compete in 8th CNMI Labor Day Softball Tournament. This is the second time that the annual competition will be held in Boise.
The weekend fundraiser will follow a double-elimination format with one modified co-ed rule, which stipulates that at least two female players must be both in the batting lineup and on the field at all times.
Prizes are up for grabs, but have not been determined yet.
SUFA, which in Chamorro means pushing or hitting something, is a non-profit organization that raises its own funds every year in order to represent the CNMI in the popular Labor Day event held in the mainland. The event has also been held in Las Vegas, Seattle, San Diego, and Portland in the past years.
CNMI teams from Idaho, California, Washington, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada have also traveled annually to be a part of the competition.
This year marks SUFA’s fifth appearance in the event.
PAC-Chain topped 20 other squads to win last year’s competition held in Portland, Oregon, and unfortunately SUFA was the first team ousted last year. This year, SUFA has beefed up its roster and vows for a better performance in the September 3 tournament.
