Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman yesterday slapped a one-year prison term against a student who burglarized a poker arcade on Tinian.
Wiseman sentenced Craig H. Borja, 21, to five years in prison, all suspended except for one year, with credit for time served. Borja will begin serving the rest of his sentence in January 2012. After completing his sentence, he will be placed on three years of probation.
The Office of the Attorney General had charged Borja with burglary, theft, and resisting arrest. He pleaded pleaded guilty to burglary as part of a plea deal. The remaining charges were dropped.
Detective Shawn Lee San Nicolas Borja stated in his report that the cashier at J.C. Café Poker had called for assistance on May 29, 2011, at 1:48am, after discovering the burglary. About $465 in bills and $178 of quarters were stolen from the booth.
At 2:35am that same day, two police officers did a routine check at U-Luck Poker 2 where they found Borja playing poker. Borja appeared nervous and later cried. Detective Borja said the defendant later admitted to the police he was responsible for the burglary at J.C. Café Poker.
