Student, 19, allegedly rapes 16-year-old girl
Police arrested on Thursday a 19-year-old student who allegedly broke into the house of a neighbor in Chalan Kanoa and raped a girl.
George Norris Langu Jr. was arrested for sexual assault in the first degree, burglary, and disturbing the peace.
An ambulance brought the victim, 16, to the Commonwealth Health Center for further examination.
At a hearing on Friday, Langu’s bail was set at $40,000 cash. Preliminary hearing is on Sept. 15 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Tillman Clark was appointed as counsel for Langu. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
Police said that two officers responded last Sept. 1 at 3:57am to a call about a sexual assault incident in Chalan Kanoa District 3.
Two persons told the officers that their niece had been raped.
The girl told police she was asleep inside her room when she was awakened by a man sexually assaulting her. The girl said she struggled and identified the person as their neighbor Langu.
She shouted and grabbed Langu’s shirt to prevent him from escaping. Langu, however, managed to run out of the house. She then told her aunt and grandmother about what happened.
The aunt told police that Langu probably entered the house from the front door because it was unlocked as they had no light.
Langu escaped through the window, the aunt said.
