Strong winds seen to diminish tonight

Share

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, trade winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 40 mph are expected to continue into today, Thursday.

A wind advisory remains in effect until 6pm today.

These winds are being caused by the strong pressure gradient between Tropical Depression 01W several hundred miles to the southwest of Guam and a strong high pressure moving off of Japan. The winds will gradually diminish today.

The public is being advised to take precautionary/preparedness actions. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles such as a truck with a shipping container on it. Use extra caution. Bring small loose items indoors. Take down canopies and awnings that are susceptible to wind damage. (HSEM)
