The Department of Finance will be processing and sending a total of 20,000 stimulus checks via direct deposit or paper check within this week.

Press secretary Kevin Bautista said that the timeline for the stimulus checks is on track and that a total of 10,000 taxpayers have already been given their checks through the web portal that was provided by the department. This was for those who chose to have the funds deposited directly into their bank accounts.

“It’s not going to be delayed as we thought it would be,” he said. “We want to be able to expedite the money to residents of the CNMI who filled for 2018 or 2019 tax refund.”

The U.S. Treasury transferred $37.6 million to the CNMI government so it could release stimulus checks to eligible CNMI taxpayers as soon as possible. This will provide up to $1,200 for each eligible individual and $2,400 for joint returns, as well as $500 for each qualifying child.
