HAGÅTÑA, Guam—Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio issued the following statements on the passing of Vice President Yosiwo P. George of the Federated States of Micronesia:

Leon Guerrero: “We join the island of Guam and the Federated States of Micronesia in mourning the passing of Vice President Yosiwo P. George, a beloved leader of our region who lived the FSM foreign policy of being a friend to all and enemy to none, and leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations of Micronesians to come. I had the honor of working with Vice President George for many years in his capacities as the Lt. Governor and Governor of Kosrae, a senator in the FSM Congress, the director of FSM Health and Human Services and as Vice President of the FSM. Jeff, Josh and I send his family, President David Panuelo and the people of FSM our heartfelt condolences and support during this difficult time.”

Tenorio: “Vice President George was a kind and gracious man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met, truly sharing the humble spirit of his home island Kosrae. He represented the FSM and the whole of Micronesia well when he became the FSM Ambassador to the United States and the United Nations, and we will continue to draw upon his spirit of public service as we continue to foster peace and prosperity for all of Micronesia.”
