Stallion Battalion co-sponsors Tinian food bank

Cadets of the Tinian Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps helped raise funds for Tinian’s first and only food bank, the Ohala Foundation, last week’s Tuesday and Wednesday.

Working with the Tinian Jr. Sr. High School National Honor Society and Student Council student leaders, Stallion Battalion cadets assisted the foundation in a food and clothing drive at the Bank of Guam parking lot on Tinian on Nov. 3 and 4.

While most of the cadets were outside under the hot sun holding up signs and encouraging Tinian residents to donate, the rest of the cadets were inside the new Ohala Foundation Closet, fixing it up and organizing its contents (clothes, shoes, cosmetics, etc.) for customers.

Thanks to everyone’s cooperative efforts, the Ohala Foundation managed to raise over $1,400 in just those two days. The money raised was used to purchase nonperishable food and other goods that were then handed out to Tinian residents for free.

“We would like to thank everyone who donated to or spread the word about the foundation. The Stallion Battalion is so glad to have co-sponsored an organization that works to help the people of Tinian. No matter the situation, we are always excited to help the Tinian community in any way we can,” said the Stallion Battalion in a statement.
