St. Michael Angels players still top SML stats

  The St. Michael Medical Response Angels’ John B. Reyes and Manny Cabrera are still the batting and pitching leaders in the ongoing 2012 Saipan Major League Baseball.

After last Thursday’s games, Reyes has connected 17 hits off 29 at bats for an impressive 0.586 batting average, while Cabrera remains the lone hurler with a perfect 0.00 Earned Run Average (ERA).

Reyes is followed by the Aces’ Jesus Iguel (0.533), IP&E-Shell-Fielders’ Anthony Tenorio (0.485), Tan Holdings-Brewers’ Byron Kaipat (0.480), Yankees’ Chris Camacho (0.429), Angels’ Marvin Kaipat (0.407), Yankees’ Ben Jones Jr. (0.406), Aces’ Nokki Saralu (0.393), JD Dikito (0.387), and Angels’ Nunu Kapileo (0.385). Five others were swinging better than 0.300. Statistics were based on at least 25 at bats.

Byron Kaipat’s 13 runs batted in (RBI) leads the category, ahead of Camacho (11), Saralu (10), Aces’ Juan Iguel (9), Brewers’ Manny Sablan (9), Yankees’ Jerome Delos Santos (6), and Aces’ Ben Tasiacan (6).

Yankees’ Tom Agulto joined Delos Santos and Saralu in the home run club. The three have a long ball apiece.

Tenorio’s three triples still lead Yankees’ Dave Camacho (2), Jones Jr. (2) and eight others, who have one thus far in the season. Kapileo earned a share of the lead in doubles (4) with Brewers’ Roy Celis, pacing Juan Iguel, Reyes and Tenorio, who have three each thus far.

Saralu leads the runs scored race by a nose with 16, but has a lot of company vying for the glory. Juan Iguel and teammates Jesus Iguel, Jones Jr. and Reyes have 15 each with Tenorio (14), Delos Santos (13), Celis (12), Aces’ Juna Maratita (12), and Sablan (12) still in the race.

In pitching, Cabrera’s perfect ERA mark through 13 and 2/3 innings pitched (IP) remains on the top line.

He leads Brewers’ Thomas Camacho (16,1-IP/0.55-ERA), Yankees’ Joshua Jones (29/0.62), Brewers’ Vince Cepeda (25.2/0.70), Angels’ Franco Flores (32/2.25) and Aces’ Maratita (11.2/2.32), Taisacan (14.2/2.46), Angels’ Peter Tenorio (10.2/2.53), IP&E’ Brandon Santos (26.1/3.08) and Aces Juan Iguel (21.1/3.80).

Jones’ 62 strikeouts, in just three 29 innings, still lead the category, ahead of main threats Elton Santos (43) of IP&E, and Cepeda (41) with IP&E’s Brandon Santos (23) and Flores (21) a way back and seven others ranging between 11 and 15.

The team standings show the Yankees in first place with a 7-1 record. The Brewers (6-2), Aces (6-3), Angels (5-4), and Fielders (5-5) are still alive in the playoff race, while the Rep. Sylvester Iguel Masters (1-7) and Rep. Ray Yumul D-9ers (0-8) failed to make the cut.
