Saipan Swim Club participated in the Tsunami Saipan Open and recorded 16 personal best times in the Dec. 9 tournament held at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.

Jinie Thompson was the first SSC member to earn a PBT after completing the 200m freestyle event in 2:55.08. The 11-year-old Thompson’s old PBT read at 2:56.49.

Sophia Gauran also raced in the four-lap event and had a faster time of 2:33.58, which is more than 15 seconds better than her previous PBT (2:48.85).

Other PBT getters for SSC were brothers Lennosuke and Jinnosuke Suzuki, Taiyo and Kento Akimaru and sisters Kaya and Aoi Braxton.

Taiyo recorded his PBT in the 50m butterfly after capping the sprint in 34.39 seconds (from 34.84 seconds). Taiyo’s older sibling, Kento, also had a PBT from a one-lap race—the 50m butterfly—after timing in at 25.61 seconds (from 25.64).

Lennosuke marked a PBT in the 400m individual medley after clocking in at 5:19.75, more than eight seconds faster than his seed time of 5:27.79. His younger brother Jinnosuke, on the other hand, got two PBTs, with the first one in the 50m breaststroke (38.07 seconds from 40.17) and the last in the 100m freestyle (1:02.19 from 1:02.79).

The 10-year-old Aoi matched Jinnosuke’s pair of PBTs, as the former timed in at 47.14 seconds (from 47.30) in the 50m butterfly and 38.97 seconds (from 39.41) in the 50m freestyle. Seven-year-old Kaya also did the 50m freestyle and she broke the one-minute barrier after posting 55.73 seconds, which eclipsed her old PBT of 1:17.16.

Jinie Thompson was the third SSC member to earn two PBTs after competing, too in the 50m freestyle and logging 35.36 seconds (from 36.66). Completing the roster of SSC swimmers with two PBTs in the Tsunami Saipan Open was Michael Miller, who timed in at 1:47.81 (1:51.61) in the 100m freestyle and 45.71 seconds (from 46.11) in the 50m freestyle.

Christian Newman also competed in the 50m freestyle and got one of his three PBTs in that sprint. He posted 47.28 seconds in the 50m freestyle, way better than his old PBT of 56.56 seconds. His two other PBTs came from the 100m freestyle (2:04.12/from 2:16.20 ) and 50m backstroke (56.27 seconds/from 1:06.97).
