Over 80 participated in yesterday’s 2011 Saipan Swim Club Jingle Bell Fun Run.
The about 5-kilometer race started from the Garapan Fishing Base and ended at the Kilili Beach Park in Susupe with Ketson “Jack” Kabiriel finishing first overall anew with a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds. Kabiriel’s time in yesterday’s race was the fastest in his three wins in the last four editions of the annual fundraiser. In 2008, Kabiriel submitted 17:38 and then posted 17:57 last year.
Joining Kabiriel in the Top 3 of the men’s division were Ronald Villafria and Tom Linden, who clocked in at 17:36 and 18:02, respectively.
Michael Mancao of Marianas High School was the fourth overall finisher and first student to reach Kilili Beach at the 18:50 mark. Completing the Top 3 in the male students division were Saipan International School Rintaro Miyawaki (21:03) and Whispering Palms’ Logan Mister (21:32).
In the female student division, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School’s Conatsu Kaga clocked in at 28:09, more than two minutes ahead of runner-up Soleil Lamar (31:19). Karen Sato rounded out the Top 3 with her 32:45.
In the women’s division, Pipic finished first with a time of 22:42, as she beat Sakiko Eda in a sprint to the finish line. Eda logged 22:43 to settle for second place, while Heather Kennedy and Suzy Kindel came in at third and fourth with times of 23:37 and 24:48, respectively.
Participants ran the course with bells placed either on their arms or legs ringing and when they made it to the finish line they received bags of candies and cookies. Raffle prizes were also given away after the race.
SSC would like to thank all the runners and sponsors of the Jingle Bell Run for supporting the fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will be used for the operational costs of the club.
