To make animal services more accessible on Saipan, the Saipan Dog Control Program is partnering once again with Saipan Humane Society to bring a four-week spay/neuter clinic to the community this May and June.

The clinic will be held at the Saipan Mayor’s Animal Shelter in As Perdido from May 18 to June 19, 2023, and will be staffed by two veterinarians, including returning volunteer veterinarian Dr. Whitney Collins.

Services provided will include spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, heartworm tests, flea/tick medicine, deworming, and more. In addition, Collins will be offering veterinary consultations for specific medical issues.

“It is imperative that we continue to strengthen our partnership with the Saipan Human Society so that we can offer much-needed services to our community. Sterilizing animals is one part of how we can resolve animal overpopulation on Saipan,” said Saipan Mayor RB Camacho.

According to Saipan Humane Society founder Lauren Cabrera, “Our partnership with the Saipan Mayor’s Office and Dog Control Program is going very well. This partnership is the key to our success—we could not do it without their support.”

Saipan Dog Control staff have noted that the dog population on Saipan continues to remain high. “Our team is very busy every day, catching dogs and responding to complaints. It is important that the community contains their dogs, and also takes advantage of clinics like this to sterilize their pets and reduce overpopulation,” said Dog Control Program manager Martin Pangelinan.
