Over 30 South Korean students learned more about Saipan in a courtesy call at the Saipan Mayor’s Office last Tuesday.
The visit by the 37 students and six teachers, facilitated by MBC Global Camp and Sasamo USA Corp., was part on an English immersion program.

The students, who visited historical areas all over the Commonwealth to gather more information about the island’s history, talked with Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang to practice their English and ask him more about the island’s history. They also presented him with a few handcrafted cards.

The students were amazed to discover that that the first mayor of Saipan was named during the German era, in the late 19th century.

The students also did a beach cleanup at the Kilili Beach in Oleai.

The students arrived on Saipan last July 26 and are set to leave on Aug. 21.
